AB  - Current rapid life style requires continual up-dating of technical literacy including good knowledge and rational use of the information and communication technologies. As the technical and information sectors are constantly going forward and improved, the mentioned situation means continual lifelong education. In her paper the author deals with the technical literacy of the first-year university students studying technical programmes, paying the main attention to knowledge and technical literacy acquired by these students at secondary schools and during their first semester university studies.
